CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Pen Park was closed earlier on Monday so crews could take another big step toward finishing Bennett's Village, an all-abilities play space.

Once completed, it will include an all-accessible tree house, the first of its kind in Charlottesville.

Bennett's Village board member Julie Basic says the tree house is meant to be used by all, because everyone should experience nature without barriers.

"We have so many visitors to the City of Charlottesville, and especially visitors to the Children's Hospital, and we want to be that place," she said. "We want to be the destination for play and to experience outside and have a great time among your peers."

She says they hope to finish construction by early September.

Bennett's Village is named after Bennett McClurken-Gibney, a child who passed away in 2018.
