CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Travis William Herndon is now in custody, according to the Charlottesville Police Department.

Herndon is charged with aggravated malicious wounding, malicious wounding, attempted malicious wounding, malicious shooting at an occupied vehicle, and possession of a firearm by a violent felon.

The charges stem from the shooting that occurred shortly after 12 a.m. Thursday on the 1300 block of Carlton Avenue.

An 18-year-old woman with gunshot wounds to her upper body was found in a vehicle that had crashed into a trailer home.

CPD Chief Michael Kochis says the injuries were to the woman’s head.

Herndon is currently being held at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.
