CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A person has been arrested in connection with one of two shots fired incidents that occurred Monday evening.

According to the Charlottesville Police Department, the incidents occurred within a few minutes of each other starting shortly after 5 p.m.

The first incident occurred at Sixth Street SE and Monticello Avenue, while the second was located on the 1400 block of Midland Street.

Officers responded to both scenes to investigate, recovering shell casings at both of them.

At the Sixth Street SW location, 12 casings were found, and police learned an occupied vehicle and an occupied residence had been hit.

They identified a suspect in this case who was later arrested.

That suspect, Malik Luck of Charlottesville, has been charged with attempted malicious wounding, reckless handling of a firearm, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

While searching the area around the first incident, officers recovered a handgun.

On Midland Street, nine shell casings were found, and officers learned one occupied and one unoccupied vehicle had been struck by bullets.

Shortly after this incident, police recovered a stolen vehicle in the area of Belmont Park. That vehicle is consistent with a suspect vehicle associated with the shots fired on Midland Street.

While searching the area around the vehicle, a second firearm was found.

CPD says the investigations into both of these incidents are still underway as is an investigation into an early Tuesday morning shots fired incident on South First Street.

Anyone with information about any of these incidents is asked to contact CrimeStoppers at (434) 977-4000.

CPD is expanding an ongoing operation concerning recent gun violence in the city by adding additional resources and personnel.

"Last week, we started an operation in order to disrupt and dismantle these organizations and identify specific individuals who are involved in the gun violence we have been seeing throughout the city," said CPD Chief Michael Kochis.

This operation is focused on people who are illegally in possession of firearms and who are committing acts of violence within the community.
