ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation has just one goal: to create a world without type 1 diabetes.

It supports people and families dealing with the disease and raises money to help fund research to find a cure for it.

The Community One Walk is one way to benefit JDRF and local people dealing with a disease that affects millions of people across the country.

The local chapter is hosting its annual Community Walk this week at Albemarle High School.

"I think Type 1 Diabetes is a misunderstood disease, so just finding a little bit of community and awareness is really important, but also you are raising money for research,” said Anna Passero, with the local JDRF chapter. “JDRF does amazing work and they're trying to find a cure and make life a little easier for people living with the disease, so it's a super worthy organization."

The walk begins at 9 a.m. Saturday. Participants should arrive at AHS by 8:30 a.m. for bagels, coffee and more.
